The great thing about elections is they belong to the American people." "I was wrong last week, as was virtually every major Republican analyst. And so, you have to stop and say to yourself, if I was that far off, what do I need to learn to better understand America.
While uncontrollably laughing at this accurate piece on just how terribly disconnected the GOP is with both America and Americans, many questions came to mind. As David Frum referred to them as, the conservative entertainment media, has lied repeatedly to its base, GOP donors and anyone who was willing to listen over the past four years. The gap between reality and their rejection of it couldn’t be wider as evidenced by some of the predictions from top GOP pundits.
Dick Morris’ 2012 election predictions were so off base, one has to wonder how he even has employment. But as Jon Stewart so shrewdly points out in the video, it’s not just that Morris is part of the GOP reality free bubble, but his assertion of what would happen to the very demographic that elected President Obama in 2008 is both hilarious and peculiar. While appearing on Fox News the day after the election Mr. Morris says:
The previous numbers were the 2004 model and I thought things would return to that…they didn’t.
Let’s take a look at that statement. There was in fact a presidential election in 2008. The results of this “alleged” ordeal is the 44th President of the United States Barack Obama. However, many conservatives including Dick Morris didn’t dare use THOSE irrelevant and clearly faulty statistics as a “model” to base the 2012 elections after. No no, they went to what can only be described as the time right before “real America” ended opting to instead use data eight years old to base this years elections predictions after.
I mean if this isn’t the biggest slap in the face of Americans, you’d hardly wonder why they lost every demographic in the United States outside of their own. Republicans and the conservative media were so deep into the bullshit politics of lies and deceit that they deleted the entire 2008 model, pretended that it never existed and applied 2004’s model never bothering to acknowledge the enormous shift in voting preferences and ACTUAL RESULTS.
Is it possible that conservatives and the conservative media, actually believed that the minority demographic would in fact disappear? That 2008 was just something of a snag in presidential politics and if they lied enough and continued their efforts to suppress the vote in heavily populated minority counties and regions across America that they could just erase Obama and the past four years from history?
Whoever takes the time to research and dig deeper into this is going to uncover some pretty ugly realities about the conservative movement from 2008-2012 and what almost happened to America if they would have won.
So much truth is hidden in humor. And while this piece from Jon Stewart is side splitting it’s also terrifying.
